The Department of Physiology at Government Medical College, Tiruppur is committed to delivering high-quality undergraduate medical education through innovative teaching methods, well-equipped laboratories, and experienced faculty. The department plays a vital role in building a strong foundation in basic medical sciences for First MBBS students.

The department has five well-equipped laboratories, each capable of accommodating 80 students

Hematology Laboratory:


Used by First MBBS students to perform essential hematological investigations such as RBC count, WBC count, DLC, hemoglobin estimation, and blood grouping.

Utilized for practical training related General Examination and Clinical examination of cardiovascular, respiratory, abdomen and nervous system examinations.

Research Laboratory:


Equipped with advanced instruments including Polygraph, Spirometer, Perimeter, Physiograph, and Ergometer. Undergraduate students and faculty are encouraged to actively participate in research activities.

Demonstration Room:


A modern demonstration room with a seating capacity of 75 students, supported by audio-visual aids, is used for:

  • Practical and clinical demonstrations

The department maintains a library with around 100 textbooks in physiology and related clinical subjects for student and faculty reference.

The department has consistently achieved 100% pass results in the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University examinations for four consecutive academic years from 2021 to 2025

The Department of Physiology conducts an annual intra-college Physiology Quiz Competition for First MBBS students. Based on their performance, selected students represent the college in state-level undergraduate academic competitions.

  • 2021-22 Batch:
    3 First MBBS students participated in the Undergraduate Physiology Quiz Competition at Government Medical College, Sivagangai.
  • 2022-23 Batch:
    * 6 First MBBS students participated in the Undergraduate Physiology Quiz Competition at Government Medical College, Thiruvallur.
    * 4 First MBBS students represented the college in the E-Concept Mapping Competition at KMCH Institute of Health Science & Research, Coimbatore.
  • 2023-24 Batch:
    6 First MBBS students participated in the Undergraduate Physiology Quiz Competition at Government Medical College, Tiruvannamalai.
  • 2024-25 Batch:
    3 First MBBS students participated in the Undergraduate Physiology Quiz Competition at Government Medical College, Virudhunagar.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES | +

3 students (1st year MBBS, 2021 batch) participated and represented our college at the state level undergraduate quiz competition held at Government Medical College, Sivagangai. 6 students (1st year MBBS, 2022 batch) participated and represented our college at the state level undergraduate quiz competition (NEXUS’23) held at Government Medical College, Thiruvallur. 4 students (1st year MBBS, 2022 batch) represented our college in state level E-Concept Mapping competition held at KMCH Institute of Health Science & Research, Coimbatore (EMOTICON’23).
