The department provides a strong foundation in pharmacological principles essential for rational, safe, and effective drug therapy in clinical practice. Undergraduate teaching emphasizes understanding of drug mechanisms, therapeutic applications, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, and principles of rational prescribing. The curriculum is delivered through a student-centered approach that includes interactive lectures, small group discussions, case-based learning, problem-solving exercises, and prescription writing skills, in alignment with CBME competencies and outcomes.
The department places special focus on developing clinical reasoning, ethical prescribing, and patient safety. Training in pharmacovigilance, essential medicines, and evidence-based medicine is integrated into undergraduate teaching to prepare students for real-world clinical practice. Through structured assessments and continuous internal evaluation, the Department of Pharmacology strives to produce competent Indian Medical Graduates who are capable of making informed therapeutic decisions and practicing medicine responsibly and ethically.
In addition, the Department of Pharmacology contributes to patient safety and hospital services through its role in the Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre, institutional ethics committee activities, and academic support to clinical departments. Through its academic excellence, research initiatives, and commitment to rational therapeutics, the department strives to produce competent, ethical, and patient-centered medical graduates.
The department of Pharmacology a basic medical sciences specialty, primarily deals with imparting knowledge and skills concerning with drug administration to the MBBS students. It is armed with dedicated, committed and dynamic faculties with immense passion for teaching. Our department has excellent infrastructure like well-equipped lecture hall with high-quality Audio-Visual aids, demonstration room, library with reference books and journals, clinical and experimental lab, small group teaching rooms, museum with models, charts, noble laureate’s gallery and crude specimens that impart knowledge about the history of medicine and also kindles the interest of the students.
Students are trained by faculties by a multitude of innovative methodologies such as interactive lectures, integrated teaching, small group teaching, self-directed learning, Case scenario/ problem-based learning, google form Quiz, role play, and Pharm-fun events.
In addition to teaching, the faculties are highly collaboratively motivated in contributing towards research.
The department is also involved in rendering its clinical expertise with regard to Drug safety monitoring and reporting with contributions of our faculties in the drug safety committee and pharmacovigilance respectively. Faculties also have to their credit research publications in national and International renowed indexed journal.
The added asset of the department lies in conducting conferences and workshops relevant to the current trends involving nationally acclaimed resource persons, offering tremendous opportunities to pharmacologists in sharing and updating their knowledge.

Pharmacology Quiz prelims was conducted on 17.10.2023, from 100 participants we finalized 15 participants for the final round. The Pharmacology Quiz Competition held on 27.10.2023, in Lecture hall 3, which comprised 5 teams- Antibiotic avengers, Capsule crew, Drug designers, Insulin squad and Mighty Morphins. Each team with 3 enthusiastic participants and spanned across 20 intense rounds, was an exhilarating and knowledge-testing event. The event aimed to challenge the participants’ understanding of Pharmacological principles and their ability to apply this knowledge effectively.
Over the course of 20 challenging rounds, participants faced a wide array of questions and scenarios related to Pharmacology. The questions covered various topics, from drug classifications to Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, putting the participants’ knowledge to the test. Certificate for Quiz and prizes for Pharm Fiesta were given by our Dean for the participants.
