The Department of Pharmacology is a core academic department committed to undergraduate medical education as per the Competency Based Medical Education Curriculum (CBME) prescribed by the National Medical Commission. The department provides a strong foundation in pharmacological principles essential for rational, safe, and effective drug therapy in clinical practice. Undergraduate teaching emphasizes understanding of drug mechanisms, therapeutic applications, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, and principles of rational prescribing. The curriculum is delivered through a student-centered approach that includes interactive lectures, small group discussions, case-based learning, problem-solving exercises, and prescription writing skills, in alignment with CBME competencies and outcomes.

The department places special focus on developing clinical reasoning, ethical prescribing, and patient safety. Training in pharmacovigilance, essential medicines, and evidence-based medicine is integrated into undergraduate teaching to prepare students for real-world clinical practice. Through structured assessments and continuous internal evaluation, the Department of Pharmacology strives to produce competent Indian Medical Graduates who are capable of making informed therapeutic decisions and practicing medicine responsibly and ethically.

In addition, the Department of Pharmacology contributes to patient safety and hospital services through its role in the Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre, institutional ethics committee activities, and academic support to clinical departments.
