The Department of Paediatrics provides comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care for sick neonates, infants and children up to 12 years of age and caters to the needs of entire population of the Tiruppur and neighbouring districts. We provide secondary and tertiary level paediatric services through our PICU and SNCU. We also provide preventive paediatric care which addresses areas of well baby clinic, immunization, developmental / nutritional assessments, early detection and early intervention for congenital defects. Also special children are efficiently treated and trained at our DEIC (District Early Intervention center).

OUTPATIENT SERVICES:


We provide OPD services for various illness including infectious diseases, cardiac, respiratory, gastrointestinal and diseases of the nervous system.

INPATIENT SERVICES:


This includes a 75 bedded general ward,15 bedded PICU with state of art intensive care and a isolation room for vaccine preventable diseases.

NEONATALOGY:


We have a 24 hours functioning, 40 bedded state of art SNCU(Special Newborn Care Unit) which provides tertiary care to the sick newborns delivered in our hospital and newborns referred from various secondary care hospitals in Tiruppur and neighbouring districts. SNCU functions as Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 of which the 10 bedded Level 3 caters to very premature & sick newborns.

Our SNCU provides all routine and essential procedures in managing neonates which include newborn resuscitation, CPAP ventilation, invasive ventilation with pulmonary graphic display, blood & blood products transfusion, exchange transfusion, umbilical venous catheterization , photo therapy for neonatal jaundice, neonatal ultra sound imaging & echocardiography. Staff nurses of SNCU are FBNC trained and committed to deliver high quality neonatal care. We have specialized area for providing kangaroo mother care. We also have a Comprehensive lactation management centre (human milk bank) which nourishes the very premature neonates and neonates of mothers with lactation difficulties.

DEIC:


The well equipped DEIC provides treatment for congenital defects, developmental delays, neuromotor disabilities and nutritional/endocrine deficiencies. Various programmes are conducted to highlight the importance of exclusive breast feeding, newborn care, infant and young child feeding practices. Parent are given counseling through the family participatory care classes. Also programmes are conducted to spread awareness about autism, learning disorders, haemophilia, thalassemia etc.,

Therefore the paediatric and neonatology department of Government Tiruppur Medical college provides holistic care for our little patients.
