• The Department of Ophthalmology has been serving the people for more than three decades under the DMS side and has been functioning under the DME side from 01/03/2021. The Ophthalmology Department offers comprehensive diagnostic services, evaluation, and treatment for patients presenting with various eye diseases and visual disorders.


• The department conducts a daily OPD (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM) along with a minor operation theatre equipped with modern diagnostic and treatment facilities. Emergency eye care services are provided 24×7. The department has an adequate number of faculty members as per NMC norms.


• The department has a well-established and fully equipped operation theatre with basic and advanced instruments including operating microscopes, phacoemulsification machines, laser equipment, and other high-end ophthalmic surgical tools to manage cataract, glaucoma, retinal disorders, and other ocular conditions effectively.


• The department also has well-ventilated classrooms with smart board facilities to ensure effective teaching and training for undergraduate and postgraduate students.


• Comprehensive eye examinations are conducted for refractive errors, cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and other ocular diseases. Vision screening programs are carried out, and spectacles are provided to needy and economically weaker patients. The department is actively involved in the prevention of blindness and promotion of eye health in the community.

• The OPHTHALMOLOGY department has a good infrastructure with well equipped OPDs, separate in-patient ward in a dedicated block to comprehensively serve the needy patients.

• The department has a well established Operation theatre with high end modern equipments and facilities to do advanced surgical procedures. OT is functioning in all the week days.

• The department is having a good refraction unit to provide best refraction services to all the patients. The department is fully equipped with state of the art high end equipments like Optical coherence tomography, B scan ultrasonography, Fundus fluorescein Angiography, Argon green laser (Retinal laser) for diagnosing and managing patients with retinal pathologies.

• Dedicated Glaucoma unit is functioning with Visual field Analyser for early detection of GLAUCOMA and management.

• The department has Anterior segment laser which helps in managing After cataracts and prevention and management of GLAUCOMA.

• To provide comprehensive OPD, IPD, emergency, and surgical ophthalmic services.


• To diagnose and manage common and complex eye diseases including refractive errors, cataract, glaucoma, retinal and corneal disorders.


• To ensure timely, ethical, and patient-centered eye care.


• To impart competency-based ophthalmology training to MBBS students as per NMC curriculum.


• To develop clinical examination, diagnostic, and communication skills related to eye care.


• To train MBBS students in basic ophthalmic procedures and emergency eye care.


• To promote clinical and translational research in ophthalmology.


• To publish research in indexed national and international journals.


• To conduct eye screening camps for refractive errors, cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and school eye health programs.


• To improve awareness regarding eye diseases, blindness prevention, and eye health.
