The Department of Biochemistry in Government Tiruppur Medical College was established in 2021 as a pioneering academic unit dedicated to elucidating the molecular basis of life and its implications for human health and disease. We are committed to excellence in medical education, cutting‑edge research, and clinical service that enhances patient care. Our mission is to provide medical students with a strong foundation in biochemical principles essential for understanding physiological processes and disease mechanisms. We integrate theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory skills to prepare future physicians and researchers for evidence‑based practice and innovative discovery.


The department boasts modern laboratories equipped with advanced analytical instruments like Fully automated clinical chemistry analyser, Hormonal analyser, ABG analyser, Electrolyte analyser, Spectrophotometer, Electrophoresis, Gel Documentation. Our faculty comprises highly experienced clinician biochemists engaged in research focused on metabolic disorders, molecular diagnostics, and therapeutic biochemistry.


We strive to foster interdisciplinary collaboration with clinical departments, promoting a holistic approach to medical education, patient‑centric activities and research.

  • The Department of Biochemistry offers academic services to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students of Medical and Allied Health Sciences.
  • Our department trains MBBS students (100 students/year) in clinical, applied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The students achieved 100% results with Honours and Distinction in University exams held in 2022. Continuous efforts are made for inculcating knowledge and skills in forthcoming years.Students are encouraged to participate in research activities and several other academic programmes.
  • Postgraduate doctors under District Residential Programme are mentored to acquire competency in clinical evaluation, diagnostic services and interpretation.
  • Thedepartmentfocuses on academic and hands on experience in various laboratory equipment and techniques for DMLT students.
Diagnostic Services | +
  • The Clinical Biochemistry section of the Central Laboratory provides services 24X7 with diligent professional team.
  • The lab is equipped with fully automated Clinical Chemistry analyzers, Immunoanalyzers and Electrolyte analyzers. Thelaboratory performs an average of 75,000 tests per month. Around 50 parameters are analysedincluding routine chemistry, electrolytes, hormonal assays and body fluids. The laboratory participates in both Internal and External Quality Assurance Schemes to provide quality results for better patient care.
  • The diagnostic and educational scope of biochemistry department extends further with the Research laboratory equipped with advanced instruments and techniques.
